Moolchand ka “Parantha”

Though commuted many times through violet line, I never had the opportunity to halt and exit at Moolchand metro station, until the day, I had some work in the same route and was returning in the evening, survived only by the breakfast I had in the hostel. Hypnotized by hunger and headache, I disembarked at the particular metro station to devour the capital’s famous parantha!

To my surprise, I didn’t have to walk much. It’s situated just below the below metro station. Here is the first glance of it. You can check the crowd too.

Ever wondered about the name Moolchand?

I am not interested much in telling you the history as I have to google it. The shop is a cluster of two middle-sized rooms. In one, there is a kitchen and counter from where they receive and deliver the order. The other is basically a dining hall which can accommodate not more than 15 people. I’ll not talk much about hygiene here as all the street vendors who serve delicious food tend to ignore it, sometimes due to lack of space. However, due to Covid, the awareness about hygiene has significantly improved. Hence, these shops too, are trying to maintain the protocol in which they fail as usual.

I am sure you must be interested in the menu and rates as was I, so I clicked these for all of us.

Reasonable! Isn’t it?

But when I disclosed to my Mom that I ate two parathas for Rs. 180, she couldn’t believe it. Perhaps, the rates in Delhi are always higher when you compare it with other states. You may be also wondering what did I order in that amount. Well, go to the pic below. A girl, who was also there with her friends, remarked after surveying the menu, “I never had seen someone serving so many varieties of Paranthas”. I could also relate to her statement.

Glance through thali section!

I wasn’t sure whether they’ll give me anything to eat with if I order only Parathas. Eating bare parathas makes my throat dry. What about you? Also, Delhi’s culture i.e consuming parantha with Dahi/Raita has also tantalized my taste buds. Hence, settled on Aloo Pyaj Paratha Thali. Here is how it was served!

Can you guess the extra item?

Two things which allured me was; the use of disposable plates and the ‘pyaj and chatni along with mirchi’. So yeah, even if you order only paranthas, you’ll get it for free to eat with. I don’t like additional butter on already oiled parantha, hence I sidelined them to use it further. Let’s come to the taste. This is totally my opinion. It can vary from person to person because each one has a different taste.

Though the Paranthas had quite a good stuffing, medium-sized so much so that just two are enough for the rest of the day if you consume in the evening, the taste was ‘okayish’. I mean good if you are eating for the first time but not to be frequented unless you’re starving. Due to similar reasons, I found some people going for Dosas and other delicacies which the shop offers alongside Paranthas! (You can check the menu for more varieties).

Some people can accuse after reading this post that how can you judge it without trying other varieties. Yeah, they are right! It’s on you now. Try and let me know. I also will if I go the next time but that day, I was full with my meal.
