In this post, I’ll attempt the translation of a Hindi poem ‘Berozgar’ by Devi Prasad Misra into English!

बेरोजगार

यह सवाल उसे शर्मिंदा कर देता है
कि वह क्या कर रहा आजकल

वह डकैती नही डालता
वह तस्करी नही करता
वह हत्याएं नही करता
वह फरेबी वादे नही करता

वह सिर्फ वोट डालता है
वह देश नही चलाता

फिर भी  यह सवाल शर्मिंदा कर देता है उसे

की वह क्या कर रहा आजकल

‘What are you doing nowadays’

Such questions

Often humiliates him

It’s obvious

He isn’t into robbery

He doesn’t smuggle

He is not a murderer

He doesn’t belong to a gang of kidnappers

He doesn’t even fake his promises

All he do is,

Cast only a vote

But he doesn’t run the country

Nevertheless,

This question puts him to shame

‘What are you doing nowadays?’

  1. I get triggered by that question to. Maybe as a result of some avoidant behaviour, or lack of fulfilment in life or a carryover of midlife crisis.
    I don’t wanna hear it. I don’t wanna think myself to a trance over tomorrow. I just wanna live 😢
