Book review: Blades on Flowers

Before reviewing this book, I’ll take some time and space to describe how I came across this book!

It happened to me for the first time when I ordered a book from amazon and another book got delivered instead. Usually, we place a return request as soon as we unwrap it if the product isn’t upto mark. I also did the same but the exchange was promised to be delivered in some 10 days.

In the meantime, I thought of going through it. ‘Blades on Flowers’ isn’t really a poetry book but rather a book consisting of loose free verses and quotes that have been scribbled from the core of the heart. The majority of them were not more than 4-5 lines long but all touched the heart equally. I finished reading a book consisting of 151 pages in just an hour.

This is what the book looks like!

Title: Blades on Flowers

Author: Prajna Chaudhary

Genre: Poetry (love, heartbreak, life)

Publisher: Pothi, published in 2018

Price: 220 + shipping charges (click here to buy/view). The ebook is also available for 150/- bucks.

Unlike other poetry books, Blades on Flowers restrict the use of lengthy verses to convey its message. Even a couplet is powerful enough to make you dive deep into human emotions that you can feel and relate to your own life. It deals with the theme common to youth and teenagers, i.e. love, heartbreak, life, feelings, attachment, break- up etc. I found the book quite amusing as you don’t need to flip the dictionary or utilise much of your brain to understand it. To be more precise, you don’t need to be a literature person to understand it. It’s a book that everyone can go through.

Ah! How real!

The author has tried to convey much in fewer words. I appreciate her for this skill. The book is more like a journey through different aspects/phases of love.

I’ll add some poems here so that you can get an idea about what’s in there.

Deep

The poems are realistic and intrinsic to human life. One of the features of this book is that it also carries illustrations (as above). It enhances readability and conveys a deeper meaning. Sometimes, illustrations alone are enough to anticipate the feelings of the poet.

Don’t we always complain to the one we love?

The book has some longer poems as well;

And the harsh reality!

Though an interesting read for teenagers, I found this book a bit overpriced considering the quality and the volume of content. Moreover, you’ve to pay delivery charges as well. However, being a budding author myself, I understand how difficult it is to negotiate with the publisher and sell the book without expecting any profit, only to harness the cost incurred while publishing.

Hence, you’ll never regret adoring your shelves with a copy of it! I’ll recommend it to be ready by every youth at least once.

P.S:

The expected exchange copy got delivered today!
