Does “Drishyam: The Conclusion” Offer a Subtle Resolution?

Amid the deteriorating quality of formulaic movies, Drishyam stood out from the crowd while keeping viewers engaged throughout!

What is remarkable other than movie Drishyam 3, to be more precise, “Drishyam: The Conclusion” (the movie has officially been concluded) is its epic date of its release on Box Office. October 2nd and 3rd have become a pronounced date in the hollywood industry. Conversely, both the dates have been created a profound impression in audience’s mind. Hence, to release it on the october 2, was a masterpiece stroke in itself. In addition to national holiday on that date, the calendar year 2026 also supported their luck since it gave them a weekend just after the release, thus, inviting more audience. Isn’t it ironical-

Ideally, this review should focus of Drishyam 3, but since it’s intertwined with first and second, let’s discuss how this is different from the other two. Most of you must be knowing and the rest of you might be surprised as well that the bollywood that the first and second part of Drishyam were never the original. It was a perfect remake of the Malayalam movie directed by Jeethu Joseph with the same title released in 2013, 2021 and 2026, set in Kerala. However, the Hindi adaptation was relocated in Goa where the first part was released in 2015 and was directed by Nishant Kamat, whereas the second and the third came in 2022 and 2026 under the direction of Abhishek Pathak. Unlike the first two, whose Hindi version came much later, the third one was released after a gap of 4 months. The Malayalam version for the third part was released on 21 May 2026, which is another ordinary date. They could have released it on 23 July, which is quite significant day because Vijay Salgaonkar allegedly removed Sam’s skeleton from the forensic laboratory and replaced it with another skeleton. Interestingly, the date is much discussed, since it also became starting point for the third and the final part in Hindi, indicating that it’s more introspective.

Unlike the other two parts, which was the direct remake of the Malyalam, the third part in Hindi is much different. I didn’t watch the malyalam part, however, out of curiosity, I did a bit of research and discovered it from the people’s reviews. People also applauded the Hindi version over the Malyalam one, saying that Hindi does justice to reconcile that mystery in a better way.

I got to watch the third part on third oct, when the family returned from Panji. A friend disclosed that he is thinking to watch it to which I promptly added my name. These days, I am governed by the philosophy, “To watch any movie in theatre within a couple of days after the release lest not watch it at all.” Getting spoiler through friend’s status is another reason. It’s also a way to avoid FOMO. Now coming to the movie, I must say that it garnered the audience’s engagement throughout the running time. Even during interval, we were pondering over the next turn of events. While we were out in the common area during the interval, a rumour broke out that the movie has resumed. I could see some of us rushing into theatre, only to find trailers and advertisement. The movie also has a definite conclusion which, satiates the audience, though insufficiently. It also connects and responds well to the first and the second part. The scene is often clipped to show later to upheld the mystery.

However, the viewers keep awaiting action from Ajay Devgan. I agree that it’s a way to upheld the mystery in the crime-thriller, but it went too far in this case. There were almost no hint about the next step of Devgan, who is shown mostly as a victim except the last 30 minutes. It made the audience to speculate or rely too much on the previous version that eventually, he’ll come up with something. This optimism made the audience stick to the movie. One of the important aspects of any crime-thriller is the red herrings, which distract the audience/investigator from the central issue and let the audience wander across the range of possibilities. But in this movie, the audience were made to stick to the couple of ‘events’ which ultimately determined the course of the movie. Even then, the audience guessed the turn of events. Surprisingly, the entire mystery was narrated (not shown or displayed) in the last 20 minutes. One of the important characteristics of the movie is to tie the loose ends. While this movie does it well, I was occupied by a couple of questions (spoiler alert) even after the conclusion: Why was Savio sent to his home for a few days only to be caught by the police? Also, if the court can order the unearthing of a grave, why can’t it order verifying the DNA of the Skelton? Moreover, no light is shed on the fact that there is a difference in a grave recently constructed (keeping dummy Skelton instead of Pinto’s) and the one that is there in place for ages. And if you have noticed, the dummy skelton was placed during torrential rain- is it possible to construct a graveyard in such a weather?

It is sad to note that there won’t be another part addressing these questions. I also applaud the production house for this decision that they chose not to extend the movie unnecessarily. You may seek the answer to these questions but for that, you need to watch it first! Book your tickets to the nearest theatres now.
